I was planning on driving through Phoenix and Tucson in the next couple of months. Stories in the news about kidnappings have me a little spooked - what's the reality? Is it just fear-mongering run amok?
Is it safe to hike alone through the national parks (Saguaro, Organ Pipe)?|||The TRUTH is that the kidnappings are really just the smugglers holding the illegal Mexicans hostage until they get paid.
It is NEVER safe to hike alone in the desert. Especially someplace as remote as Saguaro or Organ Pipe. Hike with friends & make sure somebody has an emergency cell phone or radio.
Good luck!|||If you don't buy or sell drugs and stay out of the bad parts of the cities you have nothing to fear. Never believe all the hype you hear on the news. Yes, it is safe to hike alone in the national parks if you follow normal precautions for a hike.|||phoenix is the kidnapping capital of the western hemisphere of the world. But, same for any place. dont do anything illegal, dont go into any bad neighborhoods and youll be fine. Yes its safe to hike in tucson.|||^^^Listen to the guy above me.
All the kidnappings are related to either human smuggling or the drug trade. If I'm not mistaken not even one "ordinary" citizen has been kidnapped.|||You'll be fine. Take a cell phone and some mace. It's not a good idea to hike anywhere in the world..alone. You should go with someone just in case you get bit by a snake or something. Good luck!|||You'll be fine, don't believe the hype. You should be more worried about rattlesnakes.|||If you are an american you have no chance of getting kid napped in arizona.|||it's fine.
everywhere in the world has it's ups and it's downs.
