I live in Phoenix, and have a garden every year. You can plant seeds right now, but don't expect them to come up right away. It will be another few weeks before the soil is warm enough. Pretty much any already growing plant (HD/Lowe's/Garden Center) should be fine. You just might have to cover them a night or two. Your safest bet is wait until the 1st of Feb. I know, I know, I've got the itch to start too.:-)|||it might just be since its not to cold and the sun is starting to stick its head out|||Hi, Lois. Ever heard the term called a killing frost? Even in the desert regions it gets cold at night. Plus unseasonably warm weather at this time of the year isn't usually permanent.

I made the same mistake & lost all my effort to two cold nights. Even in Ky (where I now live) planting season is May 10th yet we've had fluky weather as late as the 9th.

I'd say it's safe to get them started inside. But don't plant them outside until no more than a few days before & only then if the weather forecast is favorable.

Az. has hard soil from the sun & desert conditions so the ground stays cold longer. The soil underneath is what determines the success more than weather above. You could till the soil & fertilize where you're going to be planting so the ground will warm up quicker. But take it from one who's "been there, done that". Don't plant early.|||It depends on the plant you're going to plant.|||yes, but want a month before you set out tender plants.|||if u stick with native plants u should be alright but i'm afraid u still have some winter coming. Your best bet is to check with your local agricultural dept. and they can advise u as to what, when and where to plant
